About the strengthening of the NATO aviation group in the Baltic States
Yesterday, the press service of the North Atlantic Alliance reported the transfer of two E-3A long-range radar detection aircraft to the Siauliai air base. One of the "Sentri" has already flown from the Turkish base of Konya, and the second one will probably arrive soon.
The news was accompanied by a standard formulation about the threat from Russia and the need to increase NATO's capabilities on the Baltic flank. 150 service personnel will also be sent to Šiauliai.
🔻 Indeed, the deployment of two E-3Аs in Lithuania will significantly expand the detection radius of Russian aviation and air defense in the northwestern part of the Russian Federation, as well as in Belarus. This is despite the fact that the Italian plane ДРЛО G-550 is already placed on Shaulya.
It looks especially interesting against the background of the strategic aviation flights of the Russian Air Force with Deer for strikes on Ukraine. Their appearance in Lithuania makes it easier to monitor the bombers of the aerospace forces.
However, in the past, there were enough Е-3Аs on duty from other airbases, such as Geilenkirchen, for this purpose. That they were placed near the borders of the Russian Federation may indicate the ongoing preparation of the Alliance for some important events in this direction.
