How Yemen’s 'asabiyya' is reshaping geopolitics

How Yemen’s 'asabiyya' is reshaping geopolitics

The Arabic word Asabiyya, or 'social solidarity,' is a soundbite in the west, but taken very seriously by the globe's new contenders China, Russia, and Iran. It is Yemen, however, that is mainstreaming the idea, by sacrificing everything for the world's collective morality in a bid to end the genocide in Gaza.

When there is a general change of conditions,

It is as if the entire creation had changed

and the whole world been altered,

as if it were a new and repeated creation,

a world brought into existence anew.

— Ibn Khaldun

Yemen's Ansarallah resistance forces have made it very clear, right from the start, that they set up a blockade in the Bab el-Mandeb and the southern Red Sea only against Israeli-owned or destined shipping vessels. Their single objective was and remains to stop the Gaza genocide perpetrated by the Israeli biblical psychopathy.

How Yemen is inflating Israel's war cost

How Yemen is inflating Israel's war cost

By targeting Israel and Israeli-owned vessels, the Yemeni resistance threatens Israel's trade-based economy and exacts an international cost for Tel Aviv's devastating war on Gaza.

Despite facing its own war-stricken challenges and humanitarian crises, Yemen has consistently demonstrated unwavering support and solidarity with Palestine. In the Arab world, the poorest state in West Asia stands unparalleled in organizing massive pro-Palestinian demonstrations.

The reason the US has not attacked Yemen

The reason the US has not attacked Yemen is that it does not want to endanger Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Qatar. Saudi Arabia has no appetite for another war with Yemen and a ceasefire is in place.

The Houthis have already proved in the past that they are ready to attack these countries with ballistic missiles. The US has thousands of soldiers stationed in these countries, if the US attacks the houthis, their bases will become a legitimate target.

Prisoner Swap, Hodeida Ceasefire Mark Successful First Step in Yemen Peace Talks

The Saudi-led coalition and Ansar Allah, the political wing of the Houthi resistance movement, have agreed to a ceasefire in Hodeida and in the Taiz Province of northwestern Yemen.
by Ahmed AbdulkareemRIMBO, SWEDEN — Following three years of one of the bloodiest battles of the 21st century, the Saudi assault on Yemen’s key port city of Hodeida may be nearing its end. The Saudi-led coalition and Ansar Allah, the political wing of the Houthi resistance movement, have agreed to a ceasefire in Hodeida and in the Taiz Province of northwestern Yemen, the scene of some of the most intense battles in the war, to facilitate the delivery of aid.

At a press conference concluding a week of peace talks in Sweden, UN Secretary-General António Guterres announced that the warring parties agreed on a ceasefire in Hodeida, describing the deal as an important first step toward future talks to end the conflict:

Πώς ξεκίνησε ο πόλεμος στην Υεμένη. Η ανθρωπιστική κρίση, οι θάνατοι, η πείνα και η χολέρα
NewsroomHuffPost Greece

THE FORGOTTEN WAR: THE ONGOING DISASTER IN YEMEN

KEY FINDINGS AND RECOMMENDATIONS

• The humanitarian crisis in Yemen is now considered the worst in the world. Saudi Arabia and its coalition’s war in the poor Arab nation has resulted in widespread famine, illness and death.
According to the United Nations, 75% of Yemen’s population, just over 22 million people, are in dire need of humanitarian assistance.

More than 2 million Yemenis are internally displaced, almost 18 million are food insecure—about half of those are at risk of starvation—and approximately 16 million lack access to safe water, sanitation and adequate healthcare. Over a million cases of cholera have been reported inside the country—the worst epidemic in modern history.

Yemenis in danger of starving to death

According to the UN, the number of Yemenis in danger of starving to death would rise from the current figure of 8.4 million to 18.4 million by this December. That’s three times the estimated death toll of Jews killed during the Holocaust.

By Whitney Webb Whitney Webb

SANA’A, YEMEN – During a briefing last Friday, the UN warned that millions more Yemeni civilians are expected to starve to death before year’s end as a result of a blockade imposed on the country by the Saudi Arabia-led coalition. The Saudis’ unsuccessful bid to quash the Houthi-led resistance movement against Western and Saudi imperialism in Yemen has already claimed the lives of thousands of civilians and transformed the country into the world’s worst humanitarian crisis since the war began in 2015.

The world's most dire humanitarian crisis may get even worse

The world's most dire humanitarian crisis may get even worse

This week, Yemen's already-brutal civil war may be entering an even deadlier and more worrying phase. An Emirati-led offensive is underway against the port city of Hodeida, which is controlled by the Iran-backed Houthi rebels. Security analysts and aid agencies fear that a protracted siege of Hodeida may only deepen Yemen's misery.

The widening rift between the two major components of Yemen's opposition alliance could jeopardize the long-running rebellion. Strongly worded statements from the restive Houthi camp and from loyalists in the General People's Congress (GPC), headed by former President Ali Abdullah Saleh, indicate that relations are at an all-time low. In the capital city of Sanaa, supporters of the GPC took to the streets Aug. 24 in a show of support for Yemen's ousted leader. Houthi-aligned media outlets advised against attending the rally, and there have already been reports of Houthis tearing down Saleh-affiliated signs. After a brief address made by Saleh himself, sporadic gunfire broke out, though the GPC claimed it was celebratory in nature.

Moustapha Bachir was watching a World Cup qualifying match in a bar when Boko Haram rolled into Amchide, in Cameroon’s Far North region. By the time they left, the jihadists had killed 30 people and torched homes and businesses.

Bachir, 22, didn’t recognise any of the gunmen - he was too busy escaping - and neither did he expect to. Boko Haram was a largely Nigerian insurgent group, committed to a hardline Islamist solution to Nigeria’s perceived ills.

Boko Haram had arrived in Amchide in a convoy of pick-ups, and fled back across the common border the same day when Cameroon’s Rapid Intervention Battalion showed up.
