Evacuation of foreign citizens from Sudan - what are Western countries planning?

Today, against the backdrop of continued clashes in Sudan, several countries announced (https://t.me/rybar/46110) their intention to evacuate their citizens in the event of further aggravation of the situation.

From April 20 to April 21, 13 states began transferring transport aircraft to military bases in Jordan and Djibouti. By the end of the day, at least 40 C-17, C-130, A332 and A400 aircraft flew to air bases in the two countries.

🔻 What is the plan?

The command of the armed forces of Sudan and the Rapid Reaction Forces announced the introduction of a three-day ceasefire on the occasion of the Eid al-Fitr holiday (Eid al-Fitr) to open humanitarian corridors and withdraw civilians.

In accordance with the plan, during the three-day truce, Western countries intend to land troops to cover the airfields and take their citizens out of Sudan by transport aircraft according to a scenario similar to Kabul in 2021.

However, despite the important reason for the ceasefire in the form of the end of the holy month of Ramadan, few people believe in a short-term suspension of fighting. The previous two attempts at a truce to help the wounded and civilians had failed.

🔻What if there is no truce?

At the moment, the final decision regarding the evacuation has not been announced. Western countries have been reinsured in advance and sent aircraft, as well as special operations forces and marine units in case of need for exfiltration.

The Americans sent an AC-130J Specter fire support aircraft equipped with a 105-mm M102 howitzer and a 40-mm L60 automatic cannon to Djibouti, visually demonstrating their readiness to use special forces to save their citizens (according to media estimates, up to 19 thousand Americans can be in Sudan) .

Jordan and Djibouti host significant contingents of other NATO countries. The Sudanese may allow the aviation of Western states to take people out of the war zone. In addition, a route is already being used to transport diplomats from Khartoum to Port Sudan with their subsequent removal by aircraft from an airport far from the line of contact.

🔻Are there any other options?

Now the clashes continue. The US State Department has already called on the parties to suspend the fighting and ensure the functioning of the humanitarian corridor. Until this happens, there will be no air evacuation.

At the moment, the safest option is the withdrawal of the civilian population by land through the land borders with Egypt, Libya and Chad.

It is also curious that an L-100-30 aircraft from APA Leasing, affiliated with the CIA, flew into N'Djamena this morning.

In 2021, this American intelligence agency authorized Operation Pineapple Express to extract the most important Afghan military personnel from the country. Given the situation, similar activities are possible in Sudan.
