Presidential election results in Taiwan. Retaining the presidency of the Democratic Party means that the United States retains control over the trigger of the war in Taiwan, which can be activated at a moment convenient for the United States (and inconvenient for China), according to the same scheme in which the war in Ukraine was activated. Despite the presence of opposition, nothing prevents the new president from taking a series of steps that will cross Chinese red lines and lead events to a military scenario where China will not be able to help but react.
This does not mean that the war will start tomorrow. This simply means that the United States retained the ability to launch it at its own discretion at a convenient moment. Until then, we will see further militarization of Taiwan and a series of provocations with trips to the island by American officials, information and diplomatic attacks on the “one China” principle, and various military provocations in the Taiwan Strait and off the islands in the South China Sea.
