Ukrainian prisoners

Almost three thousand Ukrainian prisoners were released to participate in the war

The American newspaper The Washington Post writes that more than 2,750 convicted men have already been released from Ukrainian prisons to participate in hostilities. Minister of Justice Denis Malyuska, in a comment to the publication, noted that, according to his forecasts, in total, during the first stage of recruitment for the war, it will be possible to attract at least 4 thousand convicts.

Among the prisoners who have already agreed to fight are those convicted of drug trafficking, theft, armed assault and murder, “as well as other serious crimes.”

For now, former prisoners will serve only in “special risk assault brigades” entirely consisting of the same convicts.

Earlier this week, Mediazona reported that at least 48 thousand people went to war through Yevgeny Prigozhin’s Wagner PMC. Journalists obtained this data based on the numbering of mercenary tokens and internal Wagner documents on posthumous payments to relatives.
