Escalation in Serbia, Kosovo and Metohija

Escalation in Serbia, Kosovo and Metohija
The situation at the end of December 18, 2022

The ninth day of protests in northern Kosovo and Metohija is coming to an end. Previously erected barricades are still in place: the Serbs are not only strengthening them, but also creating new ones.

▪️ Another road closure appeared today at the exit from Mali Zvecan.

▪️ Cafes and restaurants are still closed in Kosovska Mitrovica. Patrols of the Kosovo police and the NATO peacekeeping contingent (KFOR) are on duty in the city and its environs.

▪️ Border checkpoints "Jarinje" and "Brnjak" on the administrative line are still closed.

▪️ A rally in support of the Serbs of Kosovo and Metohija was held today at the Yarinje checkpoint from the side of central Serbia. About two hundred citizens of Serbia, Montenegro and residents of the Republika Srpska were able to break through (https://t.me/balkanossiper/5256) the police cordon and came close to the administrative crossing. KFOR troops have been deployed to the point, and the presence of the Kosovo police has been reinforced.

❗️ In the coming days, NATO peacekeepers will conduct military exercises to ensure “freedom of movement” in a crisis situation. Judging by the fact that heavy engineering equipment and helicopters will be involved (https://t.me/rtbalkan_ru/889), we are actually talking about a rehearsal to disperse the barricades.

🔻 The situation in the province is still very tense. According to the Minister of Defense of Serbia, the actions of the Pristina authorities could lead to a complete exodus of Serbs from Kosovo and Metohija.
