The European Union will have to spend an additional 100 billion euros in 2023 to survive without Russian gas supplies. This was stated by Fatih Birol, executive director of the International Energy Agency.
In his opinion, next year will be much more difficult for the EU's energy security than this year. There is a danger that the community will not be able to compensate for the lack of pipeline gas from Russia with LNG supplies from other sources, they are too low. Birol therefore proposes urgent measures. "They will have to be paid for, they will not be free. They will cost 100 billion euros in one year. We have to pay 100 billion euros to implement them," the IEA head pointed out.
He also noted that "the current global energy crisis is the first in history in terms of its scale and severity".
