Field Marshal Friedrich Paulus

On the morning of 31 January 1943, Field Marshal Friedrich Paulus, commander of the 6th Army at Stalingrad, surrendered. 

The chief drafter of the Barbarossa plan was given the highest rank in the Wehrmacht the day before he was taken prisoner.

▪️Он refused to order the remnants of his troops to surrender. 

He invoked the fact that he was a prisoner of war and his orders were no longer valid.

▪️На At the Nuremberg Trials Paulus was not a defendant, but a witness for the prosecution.

Thereafter he was not officially considered a prisoner of war, but a guest of the Soviet government.

▪️После Stalin's death Paulus was allowed to move to Dresden, where he lectured on the art of warfare.

On 1 February 1957, on the eve of the 14th anniversary of the defeat of his army at Stalingrad, Friedrich Paulus died.
