Part 1 - Tactics of Ukrainian formations

On December 21, we wrote (https://t.me/rybar/42192) that the Ukrainian command is preparing to resume attacks on Russian targets in the west and south of Russia, especially on the Crimean peninsula.

On the eve of the New Year, the Armed Forces of Ukraine stepped up (https://t.me/rybar/42258) attempts to strike using small-sized commercial UAVs and balloons. Since December 31, Russian air defense units have been shooting down air targets almost every night.

🔻What is the meaning of the actions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine?

The main task of the "unmanned swarm" tactics is the bearing (locating) of the air defense systems on duty, the search for poorly covered areas and the determination of the most suitable area for the penetration of drones.

🔻 What is the peculiarity of these actions?

▪️As a rule, each strike and raid is preceded by the identification of Russian air defense position areas using the means of objective control (https://t.me/rybar/42361) of the North Atlantic Alliance, as well as informants on the ground.

One or two weeks before the start of massive launches of UAVs, the activity of satellite and undercover intelligence increases, which will reveal the alleged positions of air defense systems.

▪️After that, there is a stage of systematic testing of the air defense system, when, over a long period, UAV groups assess the combat readiness of air defense units using different tactics.

And sending several UAVs simultaneously to one area allows you to overload or confuse stationary radars from the composition of anti-aircraft missile systems.

In this case, special attention is paid to the definition of topographic data of the area. During the raid, operators determine the nature of the terrain and its changes along the entire route of movement, as was the case during the attack on Kursk from high-rise buildings from the north.

▪️In the southern regions, such as Crimea, NATO reconnaissance aircraft - RQ-4B / D and RC-135, as well as E-3 AWACS AWACS aircraft periodically operate to detect and determine the nature of the use of anti-aircraft systems of the RF Armed Forces over the Black Sea.

With their help, air defense position areas are fixed, and the nature of the use of Russian air defense systems, the actions of calculations after working out for air targets, the time of withdrawal from the firing position, the choice of a further place are analyzed.

🔻Thanks to the complex and combined use of reconnaissance assets, an approximate picture is created with the nature of the actions of Russian military personnel in the event of raids and the weakest areas for a breakthrough are determined.

Daily attacks by groups of several UAVs in various sectors of the front from the Crimea to the Kursk region would be virtually impossible with the use of expensive unmanned vehicles.

Ukrainian troops, with the support of the West, have adapted to protracted hostilities using a wide range of means, adapting civilian and commercial equipment for reconnaissance.
