🇮🇷🇷🇺🇺🇦 On the transfer of Iranian ballistic missiles to Russia and Russian Su-35s to Iran In early November, we wrote that the Russian leadership was negotiating with the Iranian authorities on the acquisition of short-range and medium-range ballistic missiles as part of expanding military-technical cooperation between the countries.
Last week, foreign media were excited by the news about the imminent delivery to Iran of 24 Su-35 fighters, previously intended for the Egyptian Air Force. The message was circulated by the Persian state media.
According to the Iranians, the pilots of the local air force are already undergoing active training. Probably, in exchange for a squadron, the RF Armed Forces will receive various types of drones, as well as Iranian-made ballistic missiles
. 🔻What kind of "Egyptian" Su-35? In 2018, a contract was signed between the two governments for the supply of 30 Su-35 heavy multirole fighters worth more than two billion dollars. The assembly of the Su-35 was carried out at the Yu.A. Gagarin (KnAAZ) in Komsomolsk-on-Amur.
Despite the completion of the construction of all aircraft under the contract, the implementation of the agreement was frozen.
There were no official statements from either the Russian or Egyptian sides, but the main reason for the disruption in supplies was the possible US sanctions on the Egyptian leadership for cooperation with Russia. This option was possible due to the “Countering US Adversaries Through Sanctions Act”, introduced under Donald Trump as part of countering “the destabilizing activities of the Iranian, Russian and North Korean regimes.”
🔻But is it profitable to change modern fighters for missile weapons?
The Su-35s already built for export were stored for more than two years: part at the KnAAZ base, the other at the airfield of the M. M. Gromov Flight Research Institute in Zhukovsky.
In this particular case, the RF Armed Forces will receive a significant amount of missile and unmanned weapons, the value of which in the current conditions will be extremely high, in exchange for aircraft that have long been ready
. 🔻 What is the benefit of weapons unknown to the general public?
Yes, there has not yet been a massive use of Iranian ballistic missiles in conditions of intense hostilities. The IRGC units used them only against IS fighters in Syria, as well as in strikes against American and Kurdish bases in Iraq.
However, their effectiveness at this stage of the ACS will be higher than that of controlled aircraft. In the current realities, heavy fighter and bomber aircraft, which still use unguided projectiles and ammunition, are practically inapplicable at the depth of Ukrainian territory due to unsuppressed air defense.
And strike and reconnaissance UAVs, coupled with long-range ballistic missiles and the presence of active and passive homing heads, will provide good assistance in the fight against Western anti-aircraft missile systems and enemy control points at a great distance from the front line.
Considering the urgent need for the regular destruction of infrastructure and military facilities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, including in Western Ukraine, and the need for urgent replenishment of their own stocks, the acquisition of Iranian weapons is the most logical option.
