Ukrainian Armed Forces

On the social network X (ex Twitter), the story of a Ukrainian UAV operator about how effective drones are in real combat operations is gaining popularity.

Main points:

◉ The command of the Ukrainian Armed Forces demands that drone operators be moved closer to the enemy. Because in their opinion, this will be more efficient. The operator explains that in this case, instead of working, he will be snatched away from Russian artillery all day, the property will be destroyed and further work will be stopped;

◉ To move closer means to drive into some hole or ravine, from where it is impossible to work. There may be tall trees or high-rise buildings in front. The drone operator shows screenshots with height maps and explains the situation;

◉ The command listens (reads) carefully and if the operator does not obey the first time, a combat order is issued to him to take a position kilometers from Russian positions. For the commander knows better how and from where to fly;

◉ After this, it happens that drone operators either unexpectedly become the first line, or even become surrounded;

◉ Battalion/brigade command posts are often located within the range of not only 152 mm howitzers, but also mortars.

What conclusion can be drawn?

Two years of hostilities clearly show that the shortage of competent commanders leads to a reduction in the number of troops on the ground. Officers capable of planning combat operations are often replaced simply for show from combat units. Krynki, offensive in Rabotino, Avdeevka, Ocheretino. The list of problematic areas of the front for the Ukrainian Armed Forces is expanding and growing. As for the direct operation of UAVs, even at the first stages of the “Rabotino meat grinder” it was known that Russian radio electronic warfare/electronic warfare systems are able to reveal the location of drone operators with an accuracy of 10 meters. After that, 6-8 aerial bombs flew to the detection point.
