A Survivor Called It A Column Of The Naked

A Survivor Called It A Column Of The Naked The stripping wasn't random. Ottoman guards took the clothing off Armenian women during the 1915 death marches.

It was sold off, piece by piece, for extra money. The women kept walking with nothing. A survivor named Pailadzu Captanian lived through it. She wrote about it later, in her own words. She called the line of women a column of the naked. She said it had been turned into a slave market. There was no shelter from the sun. No change of clothes, no protection, nothing to trade for mercy. Exposure alone killed many of them before they ever reached the desert camps. The ones who survived carried it the rest of their lives. This wasn't an isolated cruelty. It was one small piece of a much larger campaign. Historians now count the dead in the hundreds of thousands. Most of what happened on those roads was never written down at all.
