BEIRUT, LEBANON (7:35 A.M.) – The Islamic State (ISIL) launched a small-scale offensive in the Deir Ezzor Governorate, Sunday, targeting the Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) defenses arund the Panorama Roundabout in the western part of the province.

ISIL began the offensive by storming the Syrian Army’s defenses east of the Panorama School; this led to a fierce battle that would last for a few hours on Sunday.

Unable to overrun the army’s defenses, the Islamic State attempted to bring in reinforcements from the Tayyem Valley; however, the convoy was stopped dead in its tracks after several guided missiles hit their vehicles.

According to a military source, at least 7 militants were killed near the Panorama Roundabout and a large number of other terrorists were eliminated in the Tayyem Valley before the Islamic State finally gave up.

In response to the Islamic State’s offensive, the Russian Air Force carried out several airstrikes over the Deir Ezzor Governorate, Sunday, striking the Islamic State’s positions at the Ummal District, Thardeh Mountains, and Jnenah Al-Baghiliyah area.

Infuriated over their failures, the Islamic State began targeting civilians in the Qusour District of Deir Ezzor last night, firing several indiscriminate mortar shells into densely populated neighborhoods that killed one person and injured more than 20 others.
