Croatia to help Ukraine in returning the occupied territories


The Premieres of Ukraine and Croatia Groysman and Plenkovic also discussed the creation of a gas corridor Croatia - Hungary – Ukraine.

The Prime Ministers of Croatia and Ukraine signed documents on cooperation in the field of youth policy and on the matter of returning the occupied territories.

Cooperation was agreed during the official visit of the Head of Ukrainian government Vladimir Groysman to Croatia, ZN.ua reports.

In Zagreb, the Premieres signed a Memorandum between the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine and the Ministry of Demography, Family, Youth and Social Policy of the Republic of Croatia on cooperation in the youth sphere, as well as the Cooperation Plan for the Ukrainian-Croatian Working Group on Cooperation for 2017. The Memorandum is concluded for three years.

A working group was established at the initiative of the Heads of government of Ukraine and Croatia, Vladimir Groysman and Andrej Plenkovic. The group is to deal with the issue of returning the occupied territories to the control of Ukraine. Vladimir Groysman noted:


“The experience of Croatia is very important for us, and we are glad that such a group was established and has already begun its work."

In turn, the Head of the Croatian government expressed a desire to share his country's experience:


“Croatia supports Ukraine in the context of the resisting Russian aggression, does not recognize the illegal annexation of the Crimea and is keen to share with Kyiv its experience of peaceful reintegration of the temporarily occupied territories.”

The cooperation plan for the Ukrainian-Croatian working group on cooperation for 2017 provides for the study of Croatia's experience in the reintegration of the occupied territories and the return of refugees, restoring public confidence and infrastructure, attracting international assistance and social security in the reintegrated territories. The next meeting of the group will take place in autumn of this year in Kyiv.

On his Facebook page, the Prime Minister of Ukraine Vladimir Groysman also noted that the government intends to cooperate with Croatia in the energy sector as well:


“During the meeting the formation of the new gas corridor Croatia-Hungary-Ukraine were touched upon. Ukraine is ready to join its establishment. We are interested in diversifying natural gas supplies and establishing cooperation in the energy sector with the EU countries.”

Earlier, representatives of the EU countries held an informal meeting in Brussels in the format of "Friends of Ukraine group".
