This evening (Sunday), the riots in the Old City of Jerusalem continued between Muslims and the large number of police forces at the scene. Dozens of Muslim worshipers are attempting to prevent the passage of worshipers who are attempting to enter the Temple Mount through the metal detectors. So far, only two or three people have been arrested and the police are striving to allow Muslim worshipers to enter the site at all times.

According to Israeli Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan and the Israel Police, security will be increased by installing checkpoints at all entrances to the Temple Mount. Specifically, metal detectors or X-ray machines similar to those in Israel’s Ben Gurion Airport will be installed, enabling a better and faster inspection of those entering.

The intention is that a private security company will be in charge of the checkpoints. It is estimated that by tomorrow, four gates to the Temple Mount will be opened: three for Muslim worshipers and the Mughrabi Gate, through which Jews and tourists enter (where metal detectors have already been installed.)

The Israel Police stated that hundreds of Muslims have entered the Temple Mount throughout the day. As reported earlier by JOL, Jerusalem Islamic Waqf officials refused to pass through the metal detectors in order to enter the compound and encouraged the Muslim worshipers to do the same.
