Is Greece better than Turkey?
TC Mete Kavruk, studied at Akdeniz University
I am a Turkish nationalist and I loved the kindness of Greek friends here. This question sounds a little bit provocative but by assuming there may be a good will so i can reply.
Greece economy is not good but at least there is no terror in capitals as she is not a target and involved in Middle Eastern conflicts. We are still loosing our soldiers in a small area of east part of Turkey, there is nearly daily conflict but most of our land is pretty safe. So we have still tourists visiting. My city mostly is visited by Russians and they never hesitate to come here. Scandinavians, Europeans still come.
The latest ISIS suicide attack happened nearly a year ago and they are now silent as coalition forces and Russia toppling them in Syria and Iraq.
Turkey’s economy is not good either but people can still take their pension money from atms. Unemployment rate still climbing but i do not think it will be bad as Greece crisis. As replied here by others, food, drink etc seems cheaper in Greece. 1 kg meat here costs aprox. 15–20 euro…(€ = 4.15 TRY) a beer costs 1.6 euro… I will be happy if Greeks friends here give their figures.
Yes we are at emergency state but this does not effect people’s daily life. No soldier or police stops you at a corner and search in your car. It happens only when a potential threat is reported and there is a chase which happens mostly intercity highways. You are allowed to walk in the streets, travel any time of the day.
If you are asking this question for vacation purposes, I suggest you to visit both countries. Each offers different culture and places to see.Atina, Istanbul,Antalya,Cyprus…These are destinations in the list of ‘must-see’…
Greek friends here wrote something very wrong about our international politics. We are not willing to be Ottoman Empire again and has no interest. Whatever you hear/read is just propaganda which also sources from your politicians. It is just about consolidating voters and gain more votes. Because a country with the solid plans of extending it’s borders would not do what Turkey did in the past recent years. We did let Peshmerga to pass to Rojava area through our lands to fight ISIS then they handled it to PKK for free. A Turkey willing to be Ottoman would herself invade Rojava and USA would not deny it as the first plan was we Turks go in Syria.USA forced our army to enter Syria for many times but got no result. Now we only operate in Al-Bab where also Russians with Esad Forces exists in a few hundreds meters away. You can watch Anna News to see with your own eyes. It is just to stop so called freedom fighter PKK to reach sea and unite with other flank. And of course those zones will be where migrates will be homed when the war is over.
