In recent months, over 30 major fires have occurred throughout Russia. Some of the fires were accompanied by explosions.
The increased number of incidents in different parts of the country against the backdrop of the SVO in Ukraine and periodic sabotage by the Ukrainian special services gave rise to certain suspicions of a direct connection between the events.
The Rybar team decided to analyze the incidents from October to December with the same period in 2021. The statistics did not include data on domestic fires and incidents at small facilities. 🔻What happened? ▪️In the period from October 1 to December 23, 36 fires were recorded in Russia at important civil, industrial, oil and gas and military infrastructure facilities with a total area of more than 87 thousand m². ▪️During the same period last year, 29 large fires with a total area of over 33,000 m² were noted. At the same time, the death toll in 2021 was 73 people and 32 in this. ▪️The total number of fires that occurred under dubious circumstances in 2022 exceeds the figures for last year. However, the difference is negligible and amounts to only seven episodes. At the same time, the area of affected territories and objects is almost three times higher. 🔻 What follows from this? Approximately equal number of emergencies may indicate a typical Russian neglect of fire safety measures. However, a significant difference in the area of fires and the type of some objects (military and military-industrial) may well be associated with deliberate sabotage. Since spring, the Ukrainian special services have been actively conducting information and psychological work with the Russian population through the Internet, social networks and instant messengers, trying to win over opponents of the legitimate government in the country. Dozens of units allegedly operating on the territory of the Russian Federation (the “Russian Legion”, the volunteer Muslim corps “Caucasus”, “Atesh” (https://t.me/rybar/40244) and other nationalist organizations) exist, for the most part, only in the virtual space (https://t.me/rybar/41700). Their main purpose is PR for the Ukrainian army, attracting supporters and sowing panic. 🔻So, all these fires are a coincidence? Not really. Among the population there are those who are really prone to violence, psychologically unstable and subject to external influences. In some cases, this role is played by ordinary teenagers or young people under 20 years of age. The absence of a well-thought-out program of patriotic education, failures in the educational and cultural spheres, admission to the best universities in Russia for “money and connections” instead of taking into account real knowledge and abilities - all this contributed to the formation of current realities and the creation of prerequisites for this kind of activity. The hopelessness and lack of alternatives, along with the general stress of society, lead to the radicalization of the population. And it is often enough just to push it (https://t.me/rybar/22789) in the right direction. Hence the shooting in schools, and the arson of military enlistment offices. 🔻In addition, the current situation in the regions bordering Ukraine leaves much to be desired. Huge territories are under conditional control: there are significant gaps in the organization of defense due to bureaucratic delays or ordinary human stupidity. This can be used - and is being used - by enemy sabotage and reconnaissance groups for sabotage in the deep Russian rear, as was the case in the Pskov region (https://t.me/milinfolive/92714?single), or for strikes against important military bases from using improvised drones (https://t.me/rybar/41748). 🔻It is impossible to speak with full confidence about the involvement of pro-Ukrainian citizens or saboteurs in the latest incidents on the territory of Russia. However, this possibility cannot be ruled out either. Gaps both in the line of command of the Ministry of Defense in the organization of the army, and in the line of state administration, create serious problems, the solution of which should be a priority.
