On April 13, 2022, the Ukrainian side announced that the Moskva cruiser was hit by the Neptune anti-ship missile. On the night of April 14, the Russian Ministry of Defense confirmed that, as a result of some kind of fire, the ammunition detonated on the cruiser, due to which the crew had to be completely evacuated. In the afternoon of the same day, the Pentagon announced that the cruiser remained afloat, but badly damaged. By the end of the day, the Russian Defense Ministry announced that the Moskva cruiser sank while being towed in a storm. Eight days later, on April 22, 2022, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation will announce the victims: "During the struggle for the survivability of the ship, one serviceman was killed, another 27 crew members were missing. The remaining 396 crew members were evacuated from the cruiser to the ships in the area Black Sea Fleet and delivered to Sevastopol.
