About the escalation on the Korean Peninsula and what to expect from the new round of tension
🔻This morning, the information space was shaken: the military of the People's Democratic Republic of Korea fired more than 200 artillery shells in the contested zone in the Yellow Sea.
▪️The event instantly made all the headlines, and the Internet talked about the upcoming escalation in the region. Indeed, previously North and South Koreans clashed more than once in the area of the islands of Pannen and Enpyen in the Yellow Sea.
▪️Officially they belong to the Republic of Korea, but the main disagreements arise because of the adjacent waters. In Pyongyang, they do not agree with the UN-accepted demarcation line and regularly declare their rights to a large area.
🔻And today the Koreans from the Kaemori and Cape Chansan military bases destroyed the fragile stability. The response in Seoul was as simple as possible: they fired twice as many missiles near North Korean territory (about 400). After that, the tabloids and the media started trumpeting the imminent war between the countries.
Only for some reason, everyone in the race for sensationalism missed the moment that the military personnel from the DPRK, however, like the RK, were not on their own territories. All shells were released into the water without harm to the islands. They certainly raised the tension, but the reason for the war is not visible here.
❗️At the same time, it was the exercises of the Russian Armed Forces that provoked the escalation with North Korea a week earlier. So, in essence, the North Koreans worked out a concentrated fire defeat, and the South responded with reciprocity. This is without taking into account the fact that the ammunition also has an expiration date, and, quite possibly, it was already time to write it off.
That is, the North Korean military trained and got rid of the excesses, tickling the neighbors' nerves along the way. And for the first effect, they began to move actively in the demilitarized zone between the countries, which raised the level of tension in the region even more.
