To date, order has been maintained in the capital of Ecuador, Quito . Attacks continue, but not on the same scale. The situation looks much more dangerous in the main financial center of the country - Guayaquil , where the world's largest port is located.
▪️But logistics companies and the port itself continue to operate even in this situation: the roads are not blocked, which allows for timely delivery of goods to the point of departure. And this already suggests that the situation is developing well .
▪️The Ecuadorian authorities confirmed their intentions to start building new prisons . There is also talk about the deportation of foreign prisoners . We are mainly talking about Colombians and Venezuelans who have contributed to the deterioration of crime statistics. But it is possible that all persons who have problems with legal stay may eventually be expelled along with them.
▪️Members of terrorist groups have been declared military targets , and security forces helping the bandits are recognized as their accomplices. Purges in the ranks of the security apparatus have also been announced .
▪️The Peruvian government has introduced a state of emergency in the northern territories bordering Ecuador and Colombia . Migration control has been strengthened, and police and army detachments have been sent to the area.
▪️Brazilian authorities announced the possibility of providing their own police officers to help Ecuador.
🔻The United States decided not to send its troops anywhere for now . But interesting details of other military assistance have emerged.
The current unrest has become a pretext for the administration of Daniel Noboa to increase investment in the security apparatus . The President said that the country would exchange Soviet-made military equipment for new American models. In return, Ecuador will receive new equipment worth a total of $200 million.
The exchange will be carried out as part of a “large aid package” from the United States. Which was surprisingly promptly agreed upon with the American embassy immediately after the start of the riots. At the same time, Noboa is fully aware that the equipment handed over by Ecuador will soon go into service with the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
❗️Apparently, the announced $200 million will become the same “help” from the United States (which is never free) that Noboa spoke about earlier. The president also mentioned that funds were supposed to come from Peru . Considering that this country also has a certain amount of Soviet and Russian weapons, we would not be surprised if they also simply hand them over to the States for the same money, which will be partially transferred to Ecuador.
