new NATO base is being built in Romania

A new NATO base is being built in Romania

🔺The facility is being built on an area of 2.8 thousand hectares and will be able to receive 10 thousand NATO soldiers and members of their families on a permanent basis.

◉ The construction cost is estimated at 2.5 billion euros. The project includes airstrips, weapons storage facilities, aircraft hangars, as well as schools, kindergartens, shops and a hospital. The basis for the new facility will be the 57th air base of the Romanian Air Force “Mihail Kogalniceanu” near Constanta.

◉ Work has begun with the creation of basic infrastructure - access roads and power grid, and construction of a new runway parallel to the existing one will soon begin.

◉ Judging by the announced area of the facility, the new base will be almost three times larger than the 99th military base Deveselu, where components of the American Aegis Ashore missile defense system are located and will exceed the size of the US Air Force air base in Ramstein (Germany).

⚠️ It is noted that the facility is being created in a “new geopolitical context” and, after completion of construction, will become the most important permanent NATO military base in close proximity to Ukraine.
