The British tried to promote the Challenger 2 tank, but instead they revealed the losses of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

⚙️What are we talking about?

The British tabloid The Sun released an openly yellow material by journalist Jerome Starkey entitled “Accepting the challenge: I joined Ukrainian soldiers in British-made Challenger 2 tanks, which destroy Russian invaders at a distance of up to 4.5 km.” We will leave the adequacy of the title to the conscience of the British, but there are many interesting moments in the history of the combat use of the Challenger 2 tank in Ukraine.

◉ The first British tank of this type was destroyed back in September last year. Since then, the car’s remains lie on the “road of death” between the villages of Rabotino and Verbovoy, among the wreckage of other Western equipment.

◉ Much of The Sun's material is devoted to what the Challenger 2 is called a "64-ton sniper", but in reality the first tank of this type destroyed did not manage to fire a single shot on the battle line.

◉ Talking about the technology of the tank, the British write that “in a secret place on the front line, the tank opened fire on the move and destroyed a target the size of a plate from a distance of more than 1.5 km.” At the same time, the report is obviously being filmed away from the front line, where nothing threatens the car and the journalists filming it.

◉ An ode to the prospects and coolness of the tank is interrupted by the story of Ukrainian tank crews. They note that, despite the V12 with a capacity of 1.2 thousand horsepower, the Challenger 2 tank has big problems with mobility.

◉ At the same time, only seven of the 14 tanks transferred to the Ukrainian Armed Forces are still combat-ready. This once again confirms our conclusions that the vehicles were transferred not for real combat operations, but for the sake of symbolic support. A similar thing happened with American military equipment. The Military Chronicle talked about this in detail here.

◉ Ukrainian tank crews complain that the delivery of spare parts for British tanks “sometimes takes months”, and the tanks were not durable and “broke from the very beginning.” In addition, the tank is not equipped with ammunition for firing at infantry.

◉ Almost immediately after this, the British clearly reported that due to a lack of people, trained tank crews were removed from their vehicles and sent to dig trenches for the infantry. This happens only in one case: when units suffer heavy losses and there is simply no one to perform auxiliary functions.

At the end of the material, Ukrainian tank crews planted the “exhibition” Challenger 2 in the mud and were forced to call another tank to evacuate the vehicle.

Commenting on this would only spoil it.
