Myanmar

🇲🇲 A month after the last update on the situation in Myanmar , the situation in the country remains tense.

As before, government troops are fighting militants from ethnic armed organizations, as well as rebels from the People's Defense Forces.

One of the hotbeds of the conflict remains Rakhine State , where the Arakan Army group operates. The militants are trying to seize full control of the administrative unit, which will provide access to cross-border trade, as well as the ability to advance their positions on infrastructure projects.

One such is the Chinese gas pipeline starting at the port of Kyaukphyu , in the relative proximity of which skirmishes often occur. According to some sources , the Chinese are putting pressure on the Arakan Army to quickly end offensive actions , fearing that further escalation could damage the gas pipeline.

The PRC has leverage - the weapons used by the rebels are most often made in the PRC . It, of course, falls into the hands of the militants not directly, but through intermediaries, for example, other ethnic organizations, but the fact of its supply cannot be denied.

By the way, a new round of negotiations will be held in April between the government and the Triple Brotherhood Alliance, which includes the Arakanese, so perhaps the fighting in Rakhine State will end soon.

The Kachin state has become a new source of conflict - since the beginning of March , the Kachin Independence Army has been conducting its operation to seize control of local territories. Government troops, in turn, are actively trying to interfere with the plans of this group.

It is believed that the main motivation of the Kachin Independence Army is to seize control over key trading points bordering the PRC , as well as over jade and jadeite mining sites. All this is necessary to earn money in the form, for example, of receiving interest from cross-border trade.

Clashes occur not only on the outskirts, but also in the central part of Myanmar, but they have long become permanent . The People's Defense Forces rebels fighting there are still unable to fully resist government forces. That is why militants use drones and ambush the same convoys.

In general, there is no end to tension in the country yet, but despite pressure on various fronts, the position of the Myanmar government is still strong, and therefore there is no talk of an imminent collapse of the junta , which is often written about in the media.
