🔺 Personnel and equipment of the Ukrainian army began to be transferred to the Kharkov direction a few days after the start of the offensive of the North group of troops, however, the effectiveness of these reserves turned out to be not as originally thought.
What are we talking about?
On May 21, we published a large analysis of the reserve units that the Ukrainian Armed Forces are moving to Kharkov. Its conclusions were largely based on the fact that the command of the Ukrainian army had a small operational reserve of motivated and well-equipped units and withdrew a significant number of troops from threatened directions to repel the offensive of the Russian Armed Forces: Chasov Yar, Kupyansk, Kherson, Zaporozhye. The Ukrainian Armed Forces' reserves began arriving at the units' assigned sites between May 17 and 20 and almost never entered into battle, suffering significant losses. After Ukrainian units began to die and Ukrainian military personnel began to be captured, a different picture emerged.
Some units of the Ukrainian army, for example, the 57th motorized infantry brigade, the 71st infantry brigade or the 82nd airborne assault brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, due to losses in previous sectors, were staffed either by fighters from territorial defense brigades with much less combat experience, or by mobilized citizens without combat experience at all.
The most revealing episode in this regard is the story of a mobilized and captured Ukrainian soldier near Volchansk. According to him, no training was carried out with him and the other mobilized men, and three days after he and other men were “accepted” by TCC employees, they found themselves at the front. Lacking the simplest skills in handling either weapons or military equipment, they immediately found themselves captured.
What conclusion can be drawn?
On May 28, former head of the SBU Valentin Nalyvaichenko said that the training period for those mobilized in Ukraine is being reduced from two months to one and a half. However, in reality, these deadlines, primarily due to fears of allowing Russian troops to enter the Kharkov region, are not observed. Literally everyone is being sent to one of the most dangerous directions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces front to fill the fortifications and plug holes in the defense. Even those who were mobilized yesterday and whose value as a combat unit is practically zero.
Under such circumstances, only front-line units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces withdrawn from other directions can pose a threat to the “northern”. However, their numbers, general moral and physical condition are not standard: the personnel were tired and in a number of cases the command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was unable to make up for the losses (and if they could, then at the expense of the same practically useless three-day conscripts as the prisoner in the video).
As a result, a situation arises in which nominally there are brigades of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and they are being transferred to Kharkov, but in fact they cannot be considered absolutely combat-ready in this case.
This means that the tactics of the Ukrainian Armed Forces to overwhelm enemy positions with corpses have not only been preserved and are working, but are also becoming tougher, since absolutely unprepared conscripts are rushing to certain death.
Which, however, does not negate the need to strike such units long before arriving at the front line.
