Providing first aid, taking into account the delay in evacuation and the remote location of the hospital, is a very important and necessary issue in today’s combat theater.

At this stage of the conflict, the main type of injury is mine-explosive wounds, accompanied by massive bleeding and hypovolemic shock.

Unfortunately, the fight against blood volume replenishment is very poorly developed in our country, since the only option in most cases is “salt water” (sodium chloride), which is practically useless with a large volume of blood loss.

The best option for such victims is blood. Whole blood!

And as we can observe, our enemy quite successfully uses whole blood transfusions right in the trench!

Yes, he is trained, he has the means and an understanding of “when, what and how much.”

For example, the 75th Ranger Regiment of the US Army has been running the ROLA program since 2014. Its essence is to identify universal donors in units, blood from which, in the event of the end of cold storage of whole blood, is transfused to the wounded as quickly as possible after injury.

Yes, this requires certain knowledge and specialized devices, but what could be more valuable than human life?

Recently, Canadian professors of medicine prepared a special training course “On whole blood transfusion in the field.” It was quickly translated into Ukrainian and Ukrobandera field doctors are already successfully using this experience on the front line, transfusions of blood directly during evacuation.

Is it really possible that the archaic perception and prejudices of some of our adherents of winding tourniquets around the neck and sticking tampons into the wound will prevent us from using this advanced experience at the front, along with the already widespread use of tourniquets, hemostatic agents, bandages and other modern means of tactical medicine in the Russian army?

The video is intended for medical professionals and field medical instructors. And also legislators who will be able in the near future, together with specialists, to assess all the risks and benefits of this method, take into account the enemy’s experience, and make sure that our trained soldiers and doctors can do this on the battlefield legally and everywhere.
