BORDERS MAKE GOOD NEIGHBORS BETTER NEIGHBORS
Alexander Azadgan
The following is from an interview transcript
This was another very confrontational and controversial approach by Mr. Trump.
Actually, the cost of this wall is minuscule - it's between $8 billion and $ 25 billion, which is really nothing when it comes to the federal budget. Most likely, it's going to cost about $15 billion.
The wall is going to stretch 1,300 miles from Texas to New Mexico. It's also said that it will be 50 feet tall, which is astonishing.
I think the big part of this executive order is Trump's showmanship. Many people say it's never going to happen. Trump is already switching his rhetoric. He used to say that we are going to have Mexico pay for the wall. Then, a few days ago, he said the American taxpayers are going to pay for it at first, and then Mexico is going to reimburse us. This Is complete lunacy.
As we know, both the former and current presidents of Mexico have said that they are not going to pay for the wall. Also, Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto canceled his visit to Washington, which was planned for January 31st.
But we have to admit: there is a lot of organized crime that is coming over from not just Mexico, but also countries like Nicaragua, El Salvador, and Panama.
In my home state, California, the biggest gang problem within the prison system are these very dangerous gangs from El Salvador, who are criminals and drug dealers.
In California, we have an excellent department of corrections, in other words a prison industrial complex. The last estimate that I read says that for each inmate we spend $41,000. A lot of these prisoners are illegal immigrants and criminals whom we are sending back, but they keep on returning to the US. Taxpayers money are being wasted on them.
It's also very hypocritical on the Mexican side, because they have a very strict border policy with their southern neighbors. But when it comes to our border, suddenly the neoliberal globalists’ agenda appears, and suddenly we should not have a border between us and Mexico.
I personally believe that walls and fences make good neighbors better neighbors.
Another reason we should have much stricter border regulation is because of narcoterrorism. This is really spreading to states like Arizona and New Mexico. Luckily, my home state California and the state of Texas, because we are very powerful and rich, have managed to keep these people out. But poor states like Arizona have really been affected. These narcoterrorists from many Central American countries, including Mexico, have been taking peace and tranquility away from people. So this is another reason why we should be more realistic about the wall.
On the other hand, we are relying on business with Mexico and this wall is going to kill a big segment of business and incoming taxes. Therefore, this is a very convoluted issue.
I think this is the beginning of a new trend that we're seeing not just in America, but in Europe as well because of the huge refugee crisis and because the globalization model that we have had is failing us miserably. Maybe we need to reform the neoliberal globalist agenda and go back to nations who still have their sovereignty. That is very important.
