production of Soviet-style ammunition in Romania

On the production of Soviet-style ammunition in Romania The conflict in Ukraine demonstrated the high role of classical counter-battery combat on the line of contact. However, the scale of ammunition consumption on the front line has already gone far beyond the standard. The shells supplied by NATO countries for modern artillery systems are consumed by the Armed Forces of Ukraine in a couple of days, and the stocks of ammunition for Soviet-style guns have long run out

Against the background of the protracted conflict in Ukraine and the possible escalation of local hostilities into a full-scale war, the governments of European states began to look for alternative ways to supply the Armed Forces of Ukraine and replenish their weapons depots. 🔻What is NATO doing to solve this problem? Since the summer of last year, large defense enterprises in Germany and France, with the support of the leaderships of their countries, began to invest in the military-industrial complex of Eastern Europe with the prospect of establishing the production of the necessary ammunition for both NATO weapons and Soviet equipment. On the territory of Slovakia, an advanced point for the repair and restoration (https://t.me/rybar/42431) of European-made high-tech artillery and rocket systems has already been organized. There is also funding for the industrial workshops of the Bulgarian military-industrial complex (https://t.me/rybar/40788), specializing in Soviet weapons systems. And in the Czech Republic, the repair of T-72 tanks has been organized, a batch of which has already been delivered (https://t.me/rybar/40788) to Ukraine. 🔻What about Romania? According to The Wall Street Journal, an unnamed German defense company has invested heavily in upgrading some Romanian factories to produce a variety of ammunition, including 122mm and 152mm calibers. The most likely investor is the Franco-German holding KNDS (KMW + Nexter Defense Systems), with whose money a repair base was created in Slovak Michalovce. Where the reconstruction of the workshops of the military-industrial complex will take place at the expense of the German government is not disclosed. However, in Romania there are already enterprises that are part of the state company ROMARM, which, back in Soviet times, produced the necessary types of shells and artillery pieces, such as, for example, the industrial workshops of the arsenal in Resita. There are also factories of the Romanian military-industrial complex in Plopeni, Babeni, Dragomiresti, which were re-functionalized for the production of NATO-style ammunition. At the same time, the production of Soviet shells is quite realistic at the facility in Babeni, since the Romanians have the necessary equipment for this. 🔻Perspectives Diversification of the production base is a completely logical decision against the background of the protracted conflict and the huge need for large-caliber shells due to the transition of hostilities to the phase of active counter-battery combat. For European countries, this will allow unloading the capacities of their military-industrial complex and, in the future, supplying not only the Ukrainian army, but also replenishing the stocks of their own warehouses, which are pretty empty due to the provision of assistance to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This will clearly delimit the areas of activity between Western and Eastern Europe - in countries such as France, Germany, Austria, Spain, Belgium and the Netherlands capital and high-tech industry will be concentrated, and in the states of the former Warsaw Pact - mass production of shells, repair bases and logistics centers. security. The favorable geographical location of Romania, access to the Black Sea and the presence of a developed railway infrastructure from the very beginning of the NMD made it one of the largest transport hubs (https://t.me/rybar/42487). And the resumption of production of Soviet systems will make it possible to load the military-industrial sector, create additional jobs and receive significant financial injections from Western countries. Yes, it will take time, but given the protracted nature of the hostilities, they have it. In the future, if the plan is successfully implemented, the North Atlantic Alliance will solve one of the most important problems of the shortage of ammunition at the front.
