About individual UAV strike companies in Ukraine
About individual UAV strike companies in Ukraine
We wrote (https://t.me/rybar/43015) that the Skala reconnaissance battalion operates as part of the Vostok unified command, performing the task of assisting the advancing troops and sabotage and reconnaissance groups.
The Armed Forces of Ukraine have several units that perform similar tasks, but their efforts are not enough. The lack of forces and means forced the country's leadership to look for a way to optimize the existing resources transferred by the West and implement the experience gained in the army.
🔻What has been done?
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Ministry of Defense and the State Service for Special Communications and Information Protection of Ukraine, with the assistance of the presidential project "Army of Drones" (https://t.me/rybar/35014), are actively working on the creation of separate companies of strike unmanned aerial vehicles.
One such unit will include three shock platoons and one reconnaissance UAV, as well as an logistics department. The number of each division is up to 110 people. The state is armed with up to 12 attack UAVs of the Inquisitor, I-Bosh, Dovbush-T10 types and up to five reconnaissance ones - Shark and Elf. The drones themselves will be equipped with a control system via Starlink satellite terminals.
Additionally, depending on the tasks performed, the companies can be equipped with Switchblade, Phoenix Ghost, Sky Mantis, Vector, Warmate, RQ-20 Puma kamikaze drones, as well as up to ten off-road vehicles for mobility.
The training of operators for operations on the front line will take place on the basis of 12 main training centers, primarily in Kyiv, at the site of the Spetsaero commercial organizations, the Boriviter and Kruk private military schools, as well as on the basis of the Dronarium training grounds countrywide.
"Boriviter" is the key one from this list, the location of the training bases of which is classified. The school provides short-term courses on operational command and planning, operation of copters and fixed-wing UAVs, as well as the use of the Krapiva and Firefly automated control system and the organization of tactical communications.
🔻Efficiency
At the moment, the Ukrainian authorities are actively developing their unmanned fleet, expanding the range of UAVs produced and used in the course of hostilities. In various divisions, the presence of even the simplest copters becomes mandatory.
In such realities, the emergence of private training centers such as Boriviter or Dronarium is a completely logical consequence, since it is problematic to train everyone at military training grounds in the face of an acute shortage of infrastructure.
And the introduction of the Starlink control module into the "stuffing" of the UAV makes Ukrainian drones protected from radio interference and allows them to be controlled (if there is a stable connection) at a great distance, without worrying about a possible interception or incapacitation.
▪️The effectiveness of the newly created UAV companies is still in question, given that very controversial structures are involved in their formation and supply, such as United24 and the Serhiy Prytula Foundation (https://t.me/rybar/40875), which have repeatedly appeared in corruption schemes for fictitious collection of funds for "Bayraktars" and other types of equipment.
It is not known whether in reality everything will be as described by the Ukrainian media. However, even a small part of the transferred or purchased UAVs, if used correctly at the front, will seriously expand the capabilities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to use both artillery and assault groups during the offensive.
