situation with forest fires in Chile

About the situation with forest fires in Chile situation by February 11 At the moment, forest fires are raging in the southern regions of Chile. In some areas, flames protrude directly from the overheated ground. With every hour the situation continues to deteriorate, and local authorities fail to localize the spread of fire.

Argentina, Spain, Mexico, Brazil, Colombia, Paraguay, Peru, Portugal and Venezuela are already helping Chile fight the fires. Each of the countries sent aviation, a contingent of firefighters, as well as military personnel. 🔻Fire Spread To date, 311 fires have been recorded in the country, the total area of which has exceeded 300,000 hectares. ▪️The most difficult situation is observed in the southern regions of Chile - Maule, Araucania, Bio-Bio and Newble. Three of them are already under curfew. ▪️According to the latest data, at least 27 people are known to have died and more than 2,000 people have been injured. Hundreds of families were left homeless and forced to crowd into shelters. In the following days, these figures may increase many times over. ▪️A significant blow was dealt to the timber industry and agriculture: fields were burned, a myriad of livestock and wild animals died. At the same time, the mining industry in the north of the country was not affected. 🔻Causes of natural disaster In addition to the most obvious reasons - a long-term increase in temperature up to 35 degrees, extreme drought and lack of sufficient water supplies - local media also note deliberate arson. Some of the arsonists, judging by the statements of law enforcement agencies, have already been detained. ▪️Attention is also drawn to the fact that the largest fires occurred in regions marked by open riots of the Mapuche Indians against the official government. Among the Indians themselves, the resulting disaster is increasingly perceived as an attempt by the Chilean government to get rid of objectionable elements. ▪️The confidence of the Indians is reinforced by the fact that the leadership of individual municipalities has begun to use the practice of recalling firefighters from burning settlements of indigenous communities under the pretext of a high threat to the life and health of rescuers from the population. ▪️Some Chileans, after such statements, were indignant and demanded immediate action against the Mapuche Indians, who allegedly endanger everyone around them. True, many at the same time wondered: why was the army not used to protect firefighters, as was usually the case during the Mapuche protests? The question is far from being idle, because the fire is already gradually spreading to the capital region. 🔻These factors directly indicate that different social groups in Chile are deliberately pitted against each other, using long-standing local conflicts between the federal authorities and indigenous communities, as well as artificially increasing the damage from a seasonal natural phenomenon. At the moment it is difficult to say who exactly is the beneficiary of what is happening, but, with a high degree of probability, the question concerns obtaining (or intercepting) control over the minerals that can be mined in the area.
